Artsistic Statement

Humans are complex beings with thoughts, feelings, morals, values, likes, and dislikes. Gaining an understanding of the human experience is one of the most difficult things we will ever do. For me, theater makes that task a little easier. Growing up, I always acted in a way that I thought would please everyone else around me. I neglected my own needs and feelings, and this behavior continued through high school. When I reached college, I started to live my life for myself. Theater gave me the confidence and strength to put myself first.

Taking on different characters, and portraying their stories has made me a stronger, more confident person. I have learned how to ask for things that I want and to stand up for myself. Theater has also given me an outlet to express myself in ways that I’ve never had before. It’s made me more empathetic by exposing me to a multitude of different types of people, all with their own stories to tell. I am a more well rounded person because of theater, and I can’t imagine life without it. I do theater because it has made me a better and stronger person.
